Call of Cthulhu Limited Edition Official CoC Dice Set
By Q Workshop

Over on Barrok’s Tower, located at http://barroks-tower.net/forum/, there is a monthly design competition. It consists of a topic and then the board members create what ever they want to for gaming systems around that theme. Then once the month is over Barrok chooses the winner. I was fortunate enough to win and these dice were the prize that I gained for my efforts.

So the set consists of a a total of 7 dice. They are a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and a d10 numbered as 10, 20, 30, etc. In appearance they are a slightly off white, like slightly yellowed bone, with a black border like design on each cube face. The borders are not all the way around, just on most sides, leaving one side open on a die face. So this means that on the d4 dice, on the side with the numeral 1 on it, the border is on 2 of the 3 cube sides. This does make it a little difficult to read the numbers instantly without a little bit of looking or practice. This is an issue with eyeballs that are 46 years old. Odds are had these dice been around when I started gaming 30 some years ago I would not be making that statement.

The penultimate value on each dice is not a number; instead it is an Elder Sign, which is a nice little touch I feel. In totally random testing with no methodology they roll fine. After repeated die rolls, no single number seemed to come up more often than not. The rolling seems to be within, without actually recording the rolls, statistical odds for the dice.
In holding them, they have a nice feel. A little smooth, not rough at all. They are a touch light I believe, In holding the d6 it feels just a touch lighter than say regular dice found in a big box department store offering.

The only 2 down marks to them are, first a slight edge discoloring and quantity. My dice have stayed in their shipping / packaging case and a very light green discoloration, perhaps from rubbing against each other, is evident on some die faces, especially the d6 due to the in comparison ample ‘white’ space on each facing. Gently rubbing at it does not remove it, but to me it adds a little personality.
The other down side is how many dice. Being a long time Champions player I honestly want more than a single d6. For the average gamer this will not be an issue, for us that have 30 or more d6 dice in their own separate dice bag this is a minor quibble.

Ohh, ahhh, I love the look of the dice. I opened the box they were shipped to me in, and like, I just thought they looked awesome. They capture it very nicely for me, the feel of the Call of Blasted things from somewhere else.

The price for them is 14.9 euro, which is roughly $21.35 US, on their site located at http://q-workshop.com. I received mine for free, but I would state the price is worth it to me. While it is high for a simple set of dice, I had looked into getting some before winning these, then I had a change in employment, so I am glad I had not bought some, instead winning them, but I would not have been disappointed had I bought them anyways.
